This prevention with non-radioactive iodine is called iodine blockade.
The dosage shows that conventional iodine preparations are very low compared to iodine tablets for iodine blockade, just enough to cover the daily requirement of iodine. The tablets for iodine blockade are thus 500 times higher in dosage. However, they are only taken once in an emergency.
