Swiss Face Serums & Concentrated Treatments

A serum is defined less by its texture than by its concentration. Where a moisturiser is built mostly around water, oils and emollients with actives added, a serum inverts that ratio — the actives are the formula, and the base exists to deliver them. That is why serums cost more per millilitre, why they are used in smaller amounts, and why they belong before the moisturiser rather than after it.

Serums, boosters and ampoules

The three are related but not interchangeable. A serum is a complete daily treatment, used morning or evening over weeks. A booster is more concentrated still, designed to be added to an existing product or used alone for a short intensive period. An ampoule is a single sealed dose — the format Swiss laboratories favour for unstable actives, because the formula never meets air until the moment of use. If a product is sold in ampoules rather than a bottle, that is usually a formulation decision rather than a marketing one.

Choosing by active

Vitamin C derivatives target dullness and pigmentation, and work best in the morning under sun protection. Peptides and growth-factor-inspired complexes support firmness and density, and suit evening use. Hyaluronic acid addresses dehydration at several depths depending on molecular weight. Using a serum properly

Two to three drops is enough for the whole face; more does not penetrate faster, it simply sits. Apply to skin that is still slightly damp from cleansing or toning — hydrated skin absorbs better than dry. If you use more than one serum, apply thinnest first and give each thirty seconds. Introduce one new active at a time and allow four to six weeks before judging it; combining several strong actives at once is the most common cause of irritation. Follow with a moisturiser to seal, and with sun protection every morning.
